The Courage to Be Different

by Tak Hikichi on November 11, 2009

I blog about unconventionality, and I tell you, that’s a very lonely world. People wonder why I blog about such a seemingly unpopular subject and tell me to write something “more people” will be interested in reading. They tell me how I can get more traffic that way, and how I can profit from ad revenue.

The truth is, unconventionality is about taking the “less popular” side of an existing wisdom, then asking audience hard questions to think differently. The web is full of  “conventional ideas” already, and the last thing they need is another blogger adding to it.

I know, people are sick and tired of doing their mundane stuff every day. Or worse, many people believe it’s not their job to do more than they’re expected. So, they resort to the status quo and do what other people have in mind for them.

I beg to differ, I believe people can do more than that. In fact, nobody should live the life others expect them to live.

Why should you? If you don’t believe you got what it takes, start leading today. You don’t need charisma to lead anyone — but leading will give you what you need.

It’s not that I have courage to be different and you don’t. I do fear appearing stupid in front of people, too. It’s just that I’ve decided that my goal is more important than my fear.
