Why Cheesecake Factory Is Better Than Macaroni Grill

by Tak Hikichi on October 29, 2009

My wife calls Macaroni Grill in Mesa to request for a reservation. It was for a large party (28 people) and the response from Macaroni Grill went like this.

“Uh… that’s a lot of people and we can only do set menu”. Besides,  they didn’t want to help break the bills into individual — this was too much of a request. Basically, my wife would be in charge of setting things up and telling the party that they have to eat the same thing everyone else is ordering.

Then she calls Cheesecake Factory at Superstition.

“Yeah, I was just calling if we could reserve seats for 28 people?” “Also, we won’t have to eat set menu and can you bill us individually”?

My wife then explains how Macaroni Grill didn’t want to take such request, then Cheesecake Factory guy said, “Are you kidding me?  Of course, we’ll do anything for you!”

Clearly, here you see two types of businesses.

  • Macaroni Grill = They wanted my wife to go away
  • Cheesecake Factory = They wanted the business

Makes you wonder how some businesses really want your business or not, doesn’t it? I am hearing restaurant business owners complaining about recession, but if this is not a wake up call, then what would?

Some businesses are in recession because they don’t really want your business, they want you to go away.
