Queen Creek Going Social

I think it’s a great idea for the city to get involved in Social Media scene, and I wish more cities do that.  Before committing to this project, I’d like to offer a few suggestions for those looking into doing something similar.

Transparency – Social Media connects you with your audience.  So for a city like Queen Creek, I wonder if there is going to be someone (or some people) will take turns becoming the face of Social Media.  For example, the mayor, the marketing manager or whoever willing to put their profiles on the web.  Real pictures of people aren’t absolutely necessary, but people can connect with you deeper if there are a few group of people always updating.

Schedule- Very often, project like this kicks off and people get into it half heart.  Pretty soon, audience forgets you had something to say.  Once a week, once a day, whenever you have important to say.

Don’t Just Post Updates - Queen Creek, do you have your story you can share?  In what ways, would you like your audience to connect with you?  Telling your story doesn’t just constitute updating with boring messages on autopilot.  Many conservative groups play safe and use Social Media this way, hardly adding any impact or value to the lives of those pay attention to the messasge.  Ask questions that would provoke people into thinking whatever it is you want people to take action.

Below are two links from East Valley Tribune.

Queen Creek joining Social Media websites

“We have a young demographic in Queen Creek. We have a lot of young families,” Schubert said. “They have blogs, they’re on Facebook … this is where they are.”

Queen Creek developing marketing campaign

“There’s nothing really wrong with” current marketing, Gledhill said. “It’s more wanting to take a more strategic and focused approach on what we’re doing. It’s just focusing it so we can get the message out to a wider audience.”
